Thinking about therapy? Let's make the next step a little easier.

If you're the sort of person who wants to know exactly how this is going to go before committing, I get it. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about therapy.

Do you offer virtual therapy across BC, Yukon, and the NWT?
Yes, Clearwater Counselling offers virtual therapy across BC, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. If you live in another province, you can get in touch to find out if we can work together.
Is there a waitlist? How do I book a session?
There is currently no waitlist, although that may change from time to time. You can check my availability and book a session here.
How does Internal Family Systems (IFS) help with trauma and C-PTSD?
IFS helps us begin to see and appreciate the way that we adapted to the experiences we've been though, even if these adaptations are now starting to cause us problems. This stance of curiosity and appreciation helps us develop a sense of internal safety.
Do You Accept Insurance?
Yes. If you have coverage through CVAP, FNHA or Blue Cross, Clearwater Counselling can direct bill your insurance. For all other insurance, you will receive a receipt that you can use to claim reimbursement from your insurance provider. It's a good idea to check that your provider covers sessions with a RCC.
How often should we meet?
The frequency of sessions is also up to you. Therapy requires a commitment of time, energy and money, and it's important that the frequency is sustainable for you. That said, meeting regularly at first can help us form a relationship, and we can extend the time between sessions more easily once that relationship is formed.
Do You Offer a Free Consultation Call?
Yes, I offer a free 20 min consultation call. It is so important to feel like there is a good fit between yourself and your therapist, and a free consult is a key part of that.
What Happens if I'm Sick?
There is a 24hr cancellation policy, so if you feel like you're coming down with something and won't be able to attend, please let me know with 24hrs notice otherwise you'll need to pay for the session anyway.
What Does Neurodiversity-Affirming Look Like in Practice?
Neurodiversity-affirming means that your therapist recognizes that diversity in how people's brains work (like having ADHD or Autism) is a natural part of variation between humans and not an indication that there is anything wrong or broken about you. However, this still includes space to acknowledge the challenges and harms that can happen when your brain works differently from many others.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
The number of sessions you need will depend on your goals for therapy, the type of challenges you're facing and many other factors. However, you always get to decide when you're done.
What does a typical session look like?
Both individual and couples sessions are tailored to what each client needs on that day. It can look different from week to week for the same person, and there can be differences between what different people need in general. However, often sessions start with a check-in and some sharing about what's happened and what you want to focus on in the session. We may dive a little deeper and try some exercises or skills, and then spend some time at the end integrating the experience.
